Do I need to tell KDP my puzzle book uses AI? #
When you publish on Amazon KDP, you're asked whether your book contains AI-generated content. Here is how our app fits KDP's definitions. This is guidance only: you are the publisher, so the answer is your decision.
KDP's two categories (paraphrased from KDP's Content Guidelines)
- AI-generated: text, images or translations created by an AI tool. KDP still treats it as AI-generated even if you edit it heavily. You must disclose it.
- AI-assisted: you created the content yourself and used AI only to brainstorm, edit, refine or check it. You don't need to disclose this.
What in LargePrint Puzzle Studio uses AI
- Not AI: the puzzle grids, word placement, answer keys, page layout and large-print typesetting. These are produced by algorithms.
- AI-drafted, then edited by our team: our built-in decade and holiday word lists, facts, conversation questions, book page texts and hidden-message phrases. We draft them with AI, then our writers and editor edit and check every item (including for trademarks). Under KDP's definitions, text drafted by AI stays AI-generated even after substantial editing.
- AI, only if you use it: the optional Pro feature that suggests themes and word lists for you.
The builder knows where every list and prompt in your book came from, and the export screen tells you what applies to that book.
How to answer honestly
- Your book uses any of our built-in lists, facts, questions, page texts or phrases (every preset book does): answer "Yes" for AI-generated text. You do not need to disclose images unless you added AI images yourself.
- You replaced every list and prompt with words you wrote yourself, and used no AI suggestions: the text in your book is not AI-generated by our app, so answer "No" for text, unless you used AI elsewhere.
- You used Pro's AI suggestions: if you kept suggested words largely as given, treat them as AI-generated text and answer "Yes". If you only used them as ideas and wrote your own list, that is usually AI-assisted.
- You're not sure: disclose. An inaccurate answer risks your KDP account.
Whatever you answer, check every word list for trademarks, celebrity names and anything offensive. KDP holds you responsible for all content.
Large print
- Our layouts never set any reading text below 18 pt (grid letters are 26–28 pt; answer keys 16 pt). That meets common large-print standards, where 16 pt is the usual minimum and 18 pt the preferred size.
- KDP's paperback setup has a large-print option. As far as KDP's public help shows, it is a self-declaration rather than a check of your file, and KDP publishes no minimum size for it. If you change our defaults, keep all body text at 16 pt or larger before you tick it, and check the wording on your own KDP setup screen.
- Don't tick "Low-content" for puzzle books. KDP says puzzle and colouring books usually aren't low-content, and they qualify for a free KDP ISBN. Ticking low-content would cost you Expanded Distribution, Look Inside and series.
